Lighthouses
Did you know the very first lighthouse was built in Alexandria, Egypt? It was called the Pharos of Alexandria and it was the tallest building in our history. At the top of this structure, a lantern with a giant bonfire whose light may have been focused by mirrors, perhaps made of polished bronze, radiated light about 300 miles out into the sea. It took 300 Slaves to build this lighthouse, and 17 years of labor. Sadly, it was completely destroyed in an earthquake. Contour Shoes!

Santa Clara Audubon Society Poster Contest - Burrowing Owl
The Santa Clara Audubon Society has a poster contest for their Education Day every year. I was given the flyer for this project and immediately knew I wanted my students to participate, because it will not only be educational, and raise awareness about threatened species in our County, but it will be FUN! It is a great opportunity for the classes to bond with each other and appreciate facets of nature that could use our help!
