Expressive Self-Portraits

First year teaching self-portraits ain't so bad...Especially if you show them the proportions of the face and where to put your facial features. Intimidated at first, I was astonished with the turnout of these portraits!

Students chose either 2 warm or 2 cool colors for their face and 2 opposites (or 2 analogous colors) for the background. We talked about how the colors we chose will be used to express emotion. This lesson was based on Van Gogh's self-portraits - but it has a Fauvist/Matisse twist to it given the vibrant color schemes.
