The tradition of Mehndi is used in India and other Eastern traditions, usually done to women's hands during their rite of passage into marriage.
I had a bunch of handouts with design examples and photographs. We started by tracing our hands, cutting them out, and re-arranging the hands into different ways on the brown paper before pasting.
We then moved into designing our own Mehndi (Henna) tattoo designs. Both the girls and boys liked this project, as you can see the interesting motifs some of the boys chose. I thought it would be interesting to mention that they could incorporate their symbol they made for their Adinkra Cloth printmaking project, if they wanted.
I pointed out how very very detailed the designs are, and to make sure to try to fill in as much space as you can. Bravo.
