Keith Haring, 2 Ways!


5th grade learns about artist Keith Haring. We are doing this project in 2 parts. This first part resembles Haring's subway drawings on black paper.

1st grade draws a bunch of hats stacked on top of their own heads. Sombreros, cowboy hats, barrettes, you name it! 

LINES UNDERGROUND

3rd grade uses their imaginations to draw layers of the earth, using symbolic lines, and different weights of line. 

Line Patterned Cats




2nd Grade draws overlapping cats, filled with various kinds of line patterns to show movement.  Inspired by California artist Laurel Burch, these cats were having a party!

Line Patterned Snails


Kindergarten listens to the story "Biggest House in the World" by Leo Leonni, and looks for line patterns on the snail's growing shell...

CALIFORNIA NATIVE PLANTS

4th grade kicks off the year learning how to draw  Native Plants from visual references, using contour lines and visual texture. We developed our drawings in 3 stages...

2nd graders made me jealous today!
We had some fun with our imaginations in these Line drawings inspired by the book,
"If the Dinosaurs Came Back" by Gerard Most. This book was read to me by my Mom when I was a kid and to this day, I am still fascinated by dinosaurs. Who isn't!

Anansi the Spider

2nd Grade enjoyed listening to the story, Anansi the Spider. Paying close attention to Gerald McDermott's great illustrations including various line designs, shapes and patterns, students drew a spider web.
