Monochromatic Trees

Grades 1-2

Based on the hilarious and preposterous story, "Stuck" by Oliver Jeffers, students were given a demonstration on how to make a Monochromatic color scheme. I demonstrated how to mix a true hue with black and white tempura paint to create one of each: a "light" value, and one "dark" value from a true hue of tempura paint they were each given. The results were very incredible given the age group I was working with. Some students even made more than 2 values in their painting. Using brushes and sponges for a variety of texture and line, students created their vision of a tree.Below are examples:
