Crocodile Shapes

This lesson was a very important learning experience for Kinders. And an honor for me to be a part of this experience. Practicing scissor dexterity and recognizing shapes are both very important foundations in art, and rewarding for the students because "Yes! You can do it!"

Based on the book, "Cornelius" by Leo Leonni, students cut zig zag/spiky lines, wavy lines, triangles from squares, and circles from squares, using the knowledge we learned from their first art lesson about the different kinds of lines.

It was a rewarding experience to show students how hold scissors, how to cut with them, and how to glue the shapes with mindfulness of the materials and craftsmanship. I teach my students how to "tap" your Q-Tip into a piece of a paper plate, and then "tap" the Q-tip onto the edges of your shape and then stick it on your paper.
