I LOVE Hokusai's print of Mt. Fuji - and I thought the kids could have some fun drawing the ocean waves in his print, "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". The image has potential for imaginations to go wild, especially with the boats full of Japanese men who are about to be devoured by the huge ocean wave. I made a handout with various "Kinds of Lines" that my classes filled the underside of their waves with. They came up with a lot of their own line patterns and additions to their drawings. (Love the surfer and the plane in the sky!) I love the all of the different ways the kids drew the splashing of the waves.
