Sketching Class - White Pencil on Black Paper

In celebration of Halloween around the corner. Our sketching class at LRD used white pencils on black paper to draw an animal or creature of choice. 

It is always important to learn how to use a new artistic medium. One must learn how to apply the medium with different weights, and learn the medium to master the skill. 

We learned the white pencil on black paper by doing a value strip. This exercise helps you discipline your hand and be able to better draw shadow and light. This is a similar exercise that we did with the charcoal exercises.  

Then children decided the subject matter of their sketch and used their value scales to capture light and shadow.
